The Church Building

Building and Grounds

St Georges view from behind cenataph

St George’s is a beautiful sandstone building with oak pews and panelling and a carved stone pulpit. Separate rows of choir stalls give opportunities for a different style of worship. There is a good-sized open transept that allows more flexible use, and two vestries, one that is suitable for small meetings and the other that is largely used for administrative and storage purposes.

The church building is set in the centre of its garden, which is regularly used as a short cut across the village. A prayer walk has been established in the garden to enhance visitors’ experience. The garden includes a large circular stone lychgate, which offers creative opportunities; for example, it houses a life-size nativity scene over the Christmas period. The village war memorial stands at one corner of the grounds and is the focal point for the annual village Remembrance Day events.

The church does not have its own hall; however, regular use is made of other resources nearby, such as the village hall, the parish hall and the local pub.
