The Good News is – New Minister comes to St Georges Thornton Hough – 23rd July 2017

The Reverend Nicholas Jones comes to St George’s United Reformed Church, Thornton Hough, as its new minister on Sunday July 23rd  when he will lead his first service. This small church, which nestles in the centre of the village, has been without a minister since Revd John Oldershaw retired over three years ago.

Nick has an impressive academic record with a degree and doctorate in English Literature and a Masters in Theology. He joins the church after working in the NHS. In his mid-30’s Nick is a keen outdoorsman, an avid reader, keen cyclist, and enjoys music and pub quizzes- look out for him in the Seven Stars and the Village Club. Nick is passionate about scripture and its relevance to our lives and feels that the church can encompass different viewpoints and ways of serving the community.

St George’s has a small but active, friendly and welcoming congregation and plays its part in the life of the village. It is now well known for its musical evenings which attract capacity audiences to hear music ranging from string quartets to Russian choirs. The church is proud of its heritage and its association with other churches to promote areas of common interest. We look forward to welcoming Nick to his new ministry. Our services on Sunday start at 11.00am and a warm welcome is extended to all who wish to join us.

Sunday Worship is held at 11am.
  • All visitors will find a warm welcome.
  • Children are welcomed.  Our Childrens Worker provides Childrens Activities during the service to keep them involved and entertained.
  • Most Sundays we will hold hold informal coffee and biscuits (sometimes cakes!) in the Church after the service, which we would love everyone to join.

Once a month we will join in a united communion service with the congregation of our neighbouring All Saint’s Church.  Please keep an eye on our ‘whats on’ section for details of when this will be.
